Well, after 14 1/2 years at my current employer, I got notified my role is redundant as of yesterday, so I'll be unemployed in 4 weeks time.

Haven't been here for a while so going to be interesting being on the job hunt again, but on the plus side the job market is great right now so I don't think finding a new one will be too difficult.

The most important thing will be ensuring I can get a long weekend still for SoO!

Hey Pete that is sad news, but behind every crisis is a golden opportunity. And you're right, the job market seems to be ripe for the picking at the moment. Good luck with the job hunting.

Bummer Pete. That is a long time and you have shown your loyalty.

Hopefully you will be back in another saddle real soon.

Pete,

Sorry for you, it happen to me out of the blue after 12.5 years, it can be a bit of a wretch (who me still bitter? surely not)
Its also a great chance to reinvent your self and move on to other things, like stuff you really want to do. If they offered career counselling as part of the boot package go I found it insightful.

I`m now a seasoned job hunter and start looking every 2-3 years weather happy or not, mainly to keep the job hunting tool kit sharp.

John

That sux Pete but as alluded to above, it can always be a blessing in disguise ;-)

The old saying "One door closes, another one opens" has seen me right on several occasions in the past and I'm sure will prevail again in your case.

Plus, the redundancy cheque should be fairly substantial after 14.5 years.

Well that is total shit, thank you former employer, not!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear they 86ed you Pete, never a good feeling when it happens. All the best to you on the job front mate, you are a good operator so I am sure you will track down a place that you like soon.

SOO, you need to be there this year Pete, really need to be there.

Cheers mate.

Cheers guys, yeah, despite being reasonably certain it was going to happen after the process I've been going through for the last 6 to 8 weeks, it's still a shock to the system, and I know it's due to a specific individual I report to who likes operating to double standards, is a command and control manager, lacks any empathy or human emotion, and who has no ability to communicate. He and I aren't even on the same planet when it comes to leadership.

Anyway, would love to Power O this morning but I'm doing my last on-call shift with the company (regardless of circumstances I won't let my team down) so no riding this weekend.

The payout is pretty decent which is nice (might even lash out on a set of RS36s for the Kat if I can swing it), but main thing at the moment is to revisit what I enjoy over the weekend and get my head screwed on straight so I can start the job hunt on Monday.

And opportunity is definitely the right word! I've contemplated changing voluntarily a couple of times over the last 12 months or so given my "boss'" pathetic approach to "leadership", but the people around me kept me there because 90%+ of those are great to work with, only reason I've stayed for so long really!

Thanks for the thoughts guys!

Forgot to add Glen, yes, SoO absolutely must happen this year! I have a leave pass organised ready to go, must make use of it!

Hi Pete,
Sorry to hear about the job business. Your positive attitude will stand you in very good stead as you embark on this next phase of your working life.
Cheers
Rob

sorry to hear that pete, its never nice but fart in his general direction as you leave (hope you get the monty python ref) and the boys are right it will end up being the best thing for you.

Thanks guys, yeah, opportunities aplenty right now and after digesting over the weekend I'm pretty sure I know what I want in the next role, so ready to start the hunt this week.

John, 100% got a chuckle out of that! :D

Wow Pete............................... a massive shock to the system when it come out of the blue.........

But as it has been said this could be the ultimate cloud with silver lining.........

Now move to the sovereign Westralia as there is a brilliant job and lot of sunny riding weather (apart from today) waiting for you.

Been there too, Pete. And after about 12 years of service to the company. I'll reiterate what the other fellas have said. It really is an opportunity. I'm currently in a position that I'm more suited for, doing something less soul destroying, a shitload less stressful and better for the planet and local community. Good luck on your search, and remember that who you know is one of the best ways to find work.

Cheers guys, and yeah, definitely looking at this as an opportunity! I've been reaching out to ex managers and agencies this week and am getting some things lined up, and the job market is definitely in the right spot for looking at the moment, some very interesting looking roles out there!

Dunno about the Westralia move Tom but given the wet year over here so far maybe I should! :D Mind you it's been great if not cold the last week and a half or so...

Great news off the back of this is I received an offer for a new role yesterday which I've verbally accepted, just waiting for the contract to arrive to sign on the dotted line.

Start date will be Monday the 8th of August so that gives me some brain break time to reset, do some stuff around here I need to get done, then I'll be keen to get stuck in!

Cheers guys! Yes, over the moon just getting this crossed off the list, and the contract was signed yesterday so all done and dusted.

I absolutely mentioned October, and the answer was "no problem at all, plenty of notice". Rock on!

Oh, I also discovered neatly sitting in the contract which wasn't called out was... six weeks paid annual leave  You ripper!
