The spigots on the cylinder head are 40mm Diameter, and the ones on the carbs are 42mm? but to the casual glance they look the same...
This means there is a right way to fit the rubbers, and if you get it wrong strange running behavior and vacuum leaks can result.
 
Thanks for sharing, but apparently if you tighten the clamps up as tight as possible and strip the screw thread, then back of a quarter-turn, nothing leaks. :)
