Decals?

Gents,
My bodywork is just about to get painted - finally :/ Been stuffed around by one bloke who is a mate of a mate, so it's off to another painter.
The question I have is whether the Katana side cover decal and the GSX1100S decal on the side fairing are meant to be under the clear or not?
I know the Suzuki on the tank is, but what about these other two decals?
Bike is an 84 model burgundy/silver with the black pinstripe.
Thanks for your time!
Cheers, Stuart.

Hmmm.
From my point of view, side cover decals are on top of paintwork. Appears to be on top of a very thin clear coat.

The side fairings I cannot comment as never had them.
Cheers Stuart

The info I got was the tank details are under clear, but the side cover decals are all on top... think that was from Glen from memory?

Either way mine are all on top more due to the fact they're not original and I wasn't sure how they'd turn out nor how long they'd last, so I can replace them if need be without having to re-clear.

Hi Stuart, my SZ Kat from new had the "Katana" symbol on the side covers on top of the 13L and not covered with clear. Can't say about the "GSX1100S" decal as the SZ didn't have them ex-factory like your SE did.

Cheers.

I know it's kind of too late to reply, but I just found this thread and the question is fascinating.

First of all, "GSX1100S" decal does not exist as genuine parts, if my memory serves me correctly, but "GSX1100" exists as genuine parts. I have bought it over 25 years ago for my SL, but the decal was basically as an option for SE. As other genuine decal for the side cover, "1100", "1100LIMITED" and etc exist. There are also "750" decals for the frame cover as genuine parts.(not for side cover) All these are on top of paintwork. But "SUZUKI" on the tank is covered with clear.

Hey Kat's. With my Ltd all decals are under clear coat from the factory with exception to its Ltd production number on the side of the front fairing.
