Just wondering what people are running for their chain and sprockets.I need to replace mine soon. The chain especially but also will do the sprockets.I currently have oem sprockets on,no real sign of much wear on the back but front probably would be worn. I think the chain is 530/114 and sprockets F 14T /R 43T. Interested in anyones' views.
Thank you.

Be hard pushed to beat MetalGear Dave, it's just down the road from you on the northside.

I found price and (especially) service was top notch.

My 2 cents. :)

+1 on Metal Gear Dave. I just bought 530 F and R sprockets for the Kat - $96.00 for the pair. I have been using Metal Gear sprockets for a few years now, good quality sprockets, great service from the people at Metal Gear and very competitive prices, what's left to say?

Cheers.

I'm running a 530 setup Dave, 18/46 and I continually look for another gear, bought it off Joe some years back and is lasting quite well, but from all reports, it's hard to go past Metal Gear.

Metal Gear on the wee beastie too and no complaints here... will be doing the same on the Kat.

Same same for me.

I can't remember the sprocket sizes I'm using, suffice to say I tried to get them in a similar diameter (not number of teeth necessarily) to the OEM 630 ones so chain clearance over the swingarm was maintained.

I'm fairly certain MG have 530 sprockets to fit Kats in the 50 tooth range.

Dave, if you are running stock ratio sprockets you would be pleasantly surprised how much better the ride can be if you tweek the final ratio. I currently have 2.83 on the Kat (stock is 2.80) and it's soo much better to ride with improved pick-up and bottom end power delivery and smooth power through all the gears. To loose a few km's off the top end is well worth it. The trade-off is engine revs are increased by 250 RPM when using 2.83 final ratio so it sits smack on 4,000 RPM at 100 kph. Lucky for me my Kat doesn't have the 4,000 RPM buzz that some Kats have at 4,000. Anyway, it's worth every rev! And the sound, can't forget how glorious the sound is through the Yoshi.

The JT Sprocket Chart might be a handy guide if you want to experiment with the sprockets and ratios.

Hi,thanks to everyone for your input. I think I will just go to Metalgear then. Glen ,I will ring you sometime to talk about the sprocket sizing.

For 530 you would want an 18 front to be close to the 630 15 tooth, for the rear, a 530 50 tooth would be close to stock size, so, 18 front, 50 rear would be close to stock ratio and size for swingarm clearance.

Thats all good but Daves bike is a popup....

As suggested stay close to the stock DIA to avoid clearance issues.. so need 43 rear 14 front (which is what he has)
At 3.07:1 (43/14) is slightly lower ratio than the stock 2.733:1 (41/15) cruises at 100kph nice and accelerates.

Dave the M-gear part numbers I used were

61-530VXGB-126 (gold coloured x-ring chain you need to cut off links)
50-35021-14 esjot front steel
50-35043-43 esjot rear steel

They do have other options... (like alloy and other price range chains)

cheers John

Nice work Paul
Was able to input data for the 750kat to re-affirm the feedback on the dials.

Thanks
