Hi everyone, in 1980 I think it was (it was a long time ago) I purchased the very first katana 1100 model and although the bike is long gone I have kept the original brochure for the last 36 years and I would like to pass it on to someone who would appreciate it. I would like it to go to someone who will be a passionate long term owner of it and not someone who would simply discard it later. I have cherished it all these years and would like to see it go to a good home of someone who would appreciate it as it surely must be a rare item. If you are or know of a inmate you think would suit this profile please tell me and I will post it. Thanks, Baz.

Bugger, missed it. Would have gone well with my 1100 Kat I have owned for 30 years, one month and two days. Good score Ian.

Hi Ian, good to see I've found a good home for and I will post it down to you tomorrow, every few years I pull it out and have a look for old times sake but I don't like to continually open and close it as you can imagine its a bit delicate after all this time. The back of it has a great full size Katana poster and the other side has all the bikes features. Don't worry about any cost as I live up north from you in Townsville and the postage cost is insignificant, I am just glad to pass it on to a Katana enthusiast. I took photos of the brochure with the intention of including them in my original post but my partner and I could not work out how to post them on the forum, If anyone would like to receive them we can post them to email successfully. On another note I do remember its specified weight was 242kg and one day at work we were watching the Olympic Games and Dean Lukin won the gold medal for Australia in the weight lifting ,the weight he lifted was 242kg, imagine that lifting a 1100 Katana above your head! Hope you enjoy it mate,Baz.

G'day Baz, Thank you, if suitable I will look at framing it. I'm sure I will enjoy it. My partner Sue is as mad on the bikes as I am, and only weighing 54kg she is the perfect pillion, you don't even realise she on the back, which can lead to a little chastising when I "push on" in her opinion a little to hard. When your next down this way please stop in, we have secure under cover parking and a spare bed and plenty to eat and drink and plenty to look at. Once again thank you, cheers Ian.

Thanks for your kind offer as well Ian, I would love to see your Kats and Bimota, I am currently looking for a used MV Agusta Brutale 1090 if I find one in Brisbane I will ride it back and would contact you to drop in and to say gidday. Framing it is a good idea as it will soon tear into segments much like a old map does, it would make a great poster. take care mate, Baz.

Baz, I contacted a few people I know to see if they could help, but too new for them. Assuming you have looked on GUMTREE, there is range of MV's listed there. I never knew there are so many different "Brutale 1090" variants....cheers Ian

yeah Ian, I've seen every Brutale 1090 for sale in Australia for the last month on gumtree and bikepoint but the one I am chasing is the 2012 2013 1090 rr with the black paint scheme with red pin striping but they are very rare. I bought a new MV Agusta F4 750 in 2002 and in 2007 I took it down to the dealer to have it prepared for storage as I was going to place it in my lounge room forever as it was just so beautiful and well cared for but they dropped it off the workbench onto the concrete floor and smashed the RHS fairing, tank, mirror and tailpiece and also dented the frame when the handlebar did a full lock and pushed a small dent in it, the end result was their insurance company declared it a statutory write-off and I lost my beautiful MV that should be sitting in my lounge room right now!! I posted your brochure a couple of hours ago, the side with the full size katana poster is still in good nick considering its 36 years old and would look great framed, let me know when it arrives and what you think.

Your not alone when ones pride and joy has been dropped off a work bench but i was lucky, minor damage and the bike shop knew ME and my Temper and fixed my then Suzuki '84 1100 EFE will all new parts on RHS mirror and brake lever side cover and lower fairing. Also they did not charge me for the full service is was booked in for.

Gidday rusty82, I've never seen one in the flesh either but I know that when you ride a inline four MV Agusta you are amazed at the character and soul and sound coming from the engine its just unbelievable compared to a Japanese inline four, the induction howl is also something else, you can hear the cogs and gears and everything turning as the engine sounds very mechanical, it really does sound and feel like your on a Ferrari Motorcycle. Ive owned Kawasaki z650,gpz 900 Suzuki gs850, 1100 katana and R1 Yamaha inline fours but my MV F4 was a different experience altogether. Ive had cops following me on my F4 and so I pulled over as it was annoying me and they apologised and said 'sorry mate we were looking at your bike'.
People who own the 1090 Brutale say its a absolutely bonkers bike to ride but the downside is that your drivers license is under threat. One guy in WA got caught speeding in 3rd gear and he had his bike impounded, lost his licence for 12 months and was fined $2,000 plus his lawyers fee was $4,000 and he sadly sold the Brutale as he couldn't face going through that again! I am 57 now so I take it easy these days so it doesn't concern me as its more about satisfaction of ownership the same as you guys get with your legendary Katanas.

Ha yep - a past boss of mine had one similar to the attached ( I cannot be sure of the year/model as this would have been around 11 years ago) - he had it in storage in the SW (Margaret River area) but refused to ride it due to the road quality - it was in a shipping container all sealed up. One day he let me rev it (inside the conatiner) it was ajoy just to do that!!!! He then said move over and just held it on the limiter - WOW!!!

Man that photo brings back memories, mine was the 2002 evo2 version with single seat and that one looks like the 2003 with the silver wheels. I bought the factory Rg3 exhaust and promptly dismantled the 4 exiting pipes as they were still a bit restricted because inside there are 4 x28mm diameter pipes with a lot of cloth packing and I then inserted 4 larger 45mm diameter pipes if( I remember correctly) and removed about 2/3 of the packing and it was amazing. If you want to hear a fantastic Brutale sound google( Brutale 1090RR HYDROFORM )and play the youtube video with the volume turned up, its a brutale on the dyno being revved to the limiter first with the restrictor fitted and then without complete with flames coming out and also with the induction howl I was referring to. Its from a mob called EvolutionBike and features the beautiful Hydroform exhaust that I intend to fit, I have listened to it with headphones and oh my lord!!!

Nice Kat Nick, love the red frame with gold wheels this also brings back memories as I had mine painted black and gold, the wheels, frame and SUZUKI on the tank were painted gold and the mudguard, fairing, side panels, tank and tail were painted black and the seat was upholstered black. Ive still got about 4 photos of it but don't know how to post them.

G'day Baz, The brochure arrived in the mail today, thank you. It is the foldout centre piece of a multi page brochure which I already have. I phoned Glen (shin-ken 1074) explained that I already have one and it wouldn't be fair to keep it as he had expressed his desire to have it. He is busy all week getting ready for a trip away, so he probably won't be able to pick it up until sometime next week (he lives close by in town) He is very happy to be receiving it.
It is a lovely piece displaying the patina of the years and rightly deserves/needs to be framed behind glass. Once again thank you for your effort and generosity and it has/will go to a deserving appreciative recipient. cheers Ian.

The Katana you see as my Avatar is a 1987 Suzuki 1100 SBE original painted by Suzuki in the Yoshimura Japan racing colours and only a limited number made.
This bike has allot of trick bits on it and goes like no other Katana i have ridden.
She will be ok for a Historic plate next year but i have other Katana projects happening at the moment so see what happens in the new year.

Beautiful Kat Nick ,it must give you a great deal of owner satisfaction as they are collectable. I heard years ago that the Japanese were buying our used Aussie 1100 Kats and shipping them back to Japan as they only got the 750 version, so I guess it makes them even more rare here in OZ.

Sounds great Ian, I get more satisfaction knowing its going to a dedicated Kat owner then having it hidden away in my cupboard.
