Billyboy

Hi all.
Just had my 81 katana in for a dyno tune and blue slip for rego. This bike has been unregistered for over 10 years. Little issue is there is a small oil leak from the head gasket. The tune up guy suggests it could be piston rings or valve stems. I think it's just a head gasket. No blue exhaust smoke. Any advise would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Bill.

How old is your tune-up guy? may be too young to have experience on our old shitboxes, a VERY COMMON problem is the 'O' ring on the 2 centre front head stud nuts, here is the part number 09280-17002, Mick Hone has 21 of them, however, you can do 1 nut at a time with no damage or issues and if you do it that way, take the nut with the 'O' ring still on it to a bearing shop and say that you want VITON 'O' rings to fit.

All I've 'said' here assumes the leak is coming from the front, centre of head.

Hey scapeit
Thanks for the tip. if you are sitting on the bike, it's actually coming from the bottom of the head closest to the left footpeg. The mechanic is about 35. The oil is not a lot, just residue in the fins but definitely not right. The bike will be registered tomorrow.
Cheers.
Bill.
