A little progress on the bent one...

Hi all,

It was one year ago a few days ago since the nasty accident, so I guess its taken me a little while to get things moving on this bike, but there is a small bit of progress. The engine is out!

While that doesn't sound too much of a challenge, when the frame is so bent taking items like carbies out, exhaust off while the bike is precariously balanced on the centre stand and some wood, is just near impossible without the aid of an angle grinder and a cut off wheel.

How was it done... I removed all engine bolts etc. put a tyre on the ground next to it and laid the bike on its side, then lifted the frame over the engine. Sounds simple, but this still presented some challenges due to the bends in the frame.

Anyway, some small amount of progress made and I have found someone in Adelaide that can repair the damaged engine fins so thats good... $300... I will post some before and after photos when I get the bits back.

Well done - big effort.

Still pretty gut wrenching to see the pics - unbelievable damage.

Looks nasty hey Phil? You could send the frame up to Sydney to Larry Aldertons who has a gazilion years of frame straightening experience .

Hi Phil
I'm glad to see your making progress. Looking forward to seeing the positive pics and much happier days ahead of you.

Plus another one Phil, great to see some progress! I know it's slow going, but getting a start is awesome and hopefully gets your motivation up a bit too.

As an aside... what's the horn you were running and has it got a decent volume to it? I hate the meep meep stock horns...

Hi Phil, thanks for the news on where, most importantly you are right now as well as what you are up to with your old Kat. Keep chipping away at it and don't hesitate to ask here if there are parts you need to track down. More eyeballs looking can cover a lot of screens, papers and mags not mention someone may have what you need stashed in their shed or better yet the spare bedroom.

Cheers,
Glen.

Plenty of people in Vic who could have done them for you.
Gonz could certainly have sorted them for you.

Well done Phil and that frame is a write off and get the engine fixed and installed it into the other frame you have and slowly bring her back to life and let me know if i can help in any way.

Hi all,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It originally seemed a bit like How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time; so now the first bite has been taken...

I haven't sent the engine parts anywhere yet so if theres someone in Vic that can do the work I'm more than happy to speak with them. Whom is Gonz?

Another little annoyance was when I removed the centre lower left engine bolt and cam thingy, a piece of the engine casing fell to the ground... Bugger. Now I have to split the cases and get that repaired. Oh well; another bite.

Remember to add a little seasoning! I'm keen on Salt & Pepper.
Keep the faith Phil. Recent mag had auction details of a 1935 Brough Superior selling for A$431,000 ( just saying!)
