82 1100 wiring harness

Hi guys looking for guidance.
Wanting to restore Kat back to original condition. Just short of showroom condition, as a bike needs to be ridden.

Pulled out the wiring harness today and I need a new one. The one I have has been hacked and cut into in a few places.
option 1 buy after market
option 2 reconstruct a new one.
option 3 restore old one. Concerned about old wires.
can anyone tell me if you can still obtain all the original colour wires and terminals
I remember one of the members had terminal kits for sale a couple of years ago, are they still in circulation?
Im also concerned buying aftermarket, that the wiring configuration wont be correct for 1982 Kat.

Any thoughts?
Cheers Pauly

I bought one from webikejapan for mine was plug and play except for the right hand handle bar switch, to my mind it was worth every cent for peace of mind and no more wiring troubleshooting on an old harness.

Cheers
Max

Hi Pauly, I still have kits mate.

Can make up anything you want or have ready made small or large kits available.

Kits include 9, 6, 4, 2 pin connector blocks plus spade terminals to suit, bullet terminals plus covers, L/M/S connector covers and 6mm heat shrink in several colours.

I don't have wire but a few members have sourced wire in correct colours including trace.......

Let me know what you are after when your ready and I will suss out a price.

Cheers

Hi Thomas
Phoned Rapid today they will have most if not all the colours but only in 10m rolls at $8.46 a roll
there is approx. 30 coloured wires. That's getting close to $300.00 before you start looking at all the connector blocks, looms ect.
Unless I were making multi looms its looking like after market may be the go.

cheers Pauly

Hey Max
What year Kat do you have?

Pauly, is yours an Aust original delivery or JDM?

Frankie got one of the webike harnesses also ( possibly others in the site have also.
As per Max’s comment, you may find one or both the harness connectors for the Left/Rightswitch blocks a little different. But was an easy fix on Frankie’s as I think it was only one wire we had to change the location of.

I’d be going the Webike version and getting one of Toadboy’s kits as they are well done and will last two Kat lifetimes

I agree with you need a new harness complete and grab a kit from TOADBOY.

Looked at webike today and they have 2 model harness for sale but I believe this is the one I need.

I had Kelletts In Brisbane Straighten my frame a while ago, and had to cut rust out of the left rear peg frame area. Sent it to be painted. Should be ready next week sometime.
id like to get the bike to a rolling frame stage so it looks like I actually have a bike.
Its been in draws and cupboards for too long.

I have pitting on both of the fork tubes so will look at that soon when money pro-vales.

Cheers Pauly

Hey Max

Yes, with the job I am doing I need the harness to look like a factory finish and I had to purchase 23 rolls.

Wherever you get your wire from make sure you get a wiring terminal kit from Eric and I would suggest the larger box. Mega handy and not just for the bike, I use a heap of bit when wiring the trailer.

Hey Pauly, yeah while Rapid Cables is the go, if you want to replicate the stock harness with all the colours etc. then best bet is definitely the Webike option. I'm making my harness mainly due to stuff being different enough from stock that adapting a stock harness will be messier, but as a result I figured I'd only need 8 or 10 colours from memory and at the time all my wiring including battery wire etc. ended up less than $70. I also got a bunch of those connectors from Eric and they're doing the job very nicely indeed.

how different is the webike harness compared to original.

hey Pete
been along time.
spent 2 hours the other night catching up with your build.
Looking Good!
I'm happy to send the time and money to reconstruct the harness using kit and wire.

I'm not sure how close the webike harness is cosmetically to the original.

I want it as close as I can to original.

Pauly, I have never used a Webike harness and could not comment. The job I am currently working on is my Katana Daisho, re-wiring the chair with the correct colour sequence. Whoever wired it did a really great job but ALL the wires are red and placed the battery between the passengers' legs. I have purchased 23 different colour wire combinations in 3, 4 and 6mm. Tom

An option is to purchase a good used one from Japan. I paid $50.00 for a 750 one from Mukeido via Ebay.

Yep, good to see you back! Cheers for the compliment, she's a labour of love, just wish I was a bit closer to done, but hope to get some more progress soon.

I've not seen a Webike harness in person but all reports are that they're a little different to the Aussie original spec ones. Not sure how much of an issue that is in reality but I'd imagine it might be easier to make some minor changes to a Webike harness than create one from scratch that looks like stock?

Derek's suggestion on a good used one might be better though if there are slight mods required, better than potentially hacking up a not-so-cheap Webike new one.

Have decided to make my own harness to get it as close to the original on as possible.
Would you large kit have every thing that i would need, or are you able to create one?

If you could come up with a price, that would be great.

Thanks Pauly
