750 Exhaust Compatibility

I am sure i have seen this answered before but damned if i can find it now:

What is the exhaust compatibility like between the classic 750 and the pop-up?
I was about to order a 4:1 Marvin exhaust for "All GSX750S Katanas" for my '82 model - these are OEM style muffler in black chrome for quite reasonable price. When i requested model clariifcation they said it was for the original, not the pop-up but then they state that it fits the bike in the photo (whch was a pop-up). :roll:

So now i don't have much faith in their advice - and am unsure about the fit. Of course i could look into the 1100 exhaust but that fit is not guaranteed either.

Bill i would ask some more questions and also if you have a moment give Old Gold Motorcycles a call and ask if they still are importing 4 into 2 systems for Katana 1100 and 750.

Also, pretty sure 1100 pipes don't fit 750......different header diameter if memory serves me right, not sure if they can be made to fit ......anyone !

What i have gleaned is that the OEM pipes are not interchangeable between 1100 and 750. Most (but not all EG Tingate) pipes fit both. The difference is primarily the height of the engine - the header diameter is different but will work.

I am a bit pissed. Mick Hone had the OEM system for 750 at quite reasonable price. Decided to grab one only a couple of weeks later and one side muffler was discontinued. Arrrg.

I will check with Old Gold but with an exhaust this old condition is a concern.
