7/11 - What's the Legal Situation?

So for those of you who have done 7/11's in Qld... what's the deal with legality? It's such a common theme I can't see an issue but the only info I can find on Qld Transport's site is the same old information I've always seen... fitting a larger motor that was an original option for the same model is ok, and only if fitting the same brakes/suspension/etc. that the larger engine model came with.

I'm assuming this is for cars and bikes because it's not specific (just says vehicle).

However, on the same page it refers to no more than 20% power gain... so how does this work if you put say a 1260 into a 750 frame?

Are you guys simply taking a gamble or am I over thinking this whole thing??

And unfortunately I have no definite plans right now to prompt the question... but if I know then I can think about making some plans ;)

Although there is a 1980 GSX750 rolling frame on Gumtree at the moment...

Haha I like your enthusiasm :D

Soooo... any idea if Kat tank and bodywork would fit a 1980 GSX750??

Most panels for the 750 and 1100 will fit and watch out for the 250 side covers as they are smaller also the 1100 seat is bigger then the 750 seat. Enjoy Pete and as Gam says, Just do it.:D

Pete,
Most of he published rules on TMR ste , NCOPs etc apply to cars.
AFAIK there are no rules about 1260cc etc, so you can just do it.
If your worried a chat to a "approved person" should set you straight.

I might know something a about a cheap popup engine, if you want to do a different-ish 7/7 conversion.
(a little more power than 80 750 but also a little lighter han a 1100)

Cheers john

ps just do it already

Cheers John! Left a message on the guy's mobile so I'll see what happens... might not even be available yet but if it's clean and relatively straight the price is right.

Ideally I want an 1100 but I think at this stage of the game a 750 would be good for me... I can always shove an 1100 (or bigger) in later. There's always the 816 option as well if the 750 needs a bit of work...

Tank mountnig brackets are different, fairing brackets and panel hanging brackets are different, tail mounts are different. So, yes, it can fit with some fabrication.

We'll see if he calls back... he's got one of those voice to SMS message things so may not even have gotten the message yet.

As for fabrication, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty with stuff like that... there's no rush to get it done quickly so I can take it slow and endeavour to do a good job.

I figure the brackets would need to change/move, I was thinking more around things like if the tank will fit over the frame rails etc. but I don't think that would be an issue.

Oh, and John... yeah cheap means work... and I'm fine with that also :)

There's a bike specific bit that I'll track down. It says if it was an original option you can do it provided you upgrade brakes and suspension from the same model.

As long as no frame mods are undertaken, you can do it. You can swap out parts for upgrades that bolt on is pretty much the take on mods. Start cutting and welding etc. and you'll need an engineer.

Mines got slightly newer, different brand front and rear end with wider than standard wheels and the road worthy guy said they were acceptable upgrades. It even has lugs welded on to the swing arm to convert it from single to the dual shock as standard and he took a look at it and passed it.
Older bikes are almost forgiven just for being old.

Thanks Ben, that's what I've seen before and remembered from a long time ago but could not find...

Seems I was a little hasty yesterday so I can't chase down the GSX rolling frame on Gumtree just now, but the end of the month should see me looking I believe.

I might even be getting a little excited...
