On 14 March 1984 I purchased a brand new GSX1000SD from Brisbane Suzuki Centre Newstead. I sold the motorcycle in 1987; although I still have in my possession the owners manual, service booklet, purchase invoices, first service invoice and other documents relevant to this motorcycle. The frame number for the motorcycle is GS10X-500778. My intent with writing this post and also for joining this Forum, is to possibly reunite these documents with the current owner of the motorcycle, assuming the motorcycle still exists and the current owner would like to take possession of these documents. Regards

That's very kind of you to offer the relevant documents...

I can tell you that my GSX1000SD 3/83 has a frame number of GS10X-500777...so its the bike previous to the one you had.

Hi and welcome to Katland. Yes, a very kind offer to the current owner of your old Kat and I hope someone here owns her or may know where she is right now, good luck with the search. GS10X 500777 - so close Dave, so very close!

Cheers

That is quite amazing actually that you have the immediately previous frame number motorcycle. Did you purchase yours new and did you purchase it in Qld. Mine was sold to a chap in Kingaroy, where I am originally from, although I was living in Brisbane when I purchased the motorcycle. I would like to see the documents reunited with the motorcycle, as I am sure there are not too many motorcycles of similar vintage where the owner could produce the original documentation for the motorcycle.

Purchased mine only 7 months or so ago.
It was completely stripped down to the engine case.

Unfortunately I have no previous history on mine whatsoever.
I'd go as far as saying there would only be handful of GSX1000SD left in the country....a very rare bird indeed.

I can tell you its still in QLD but according to a quick PPRS search it is now yellow.

Identifier number: GS10X500778 Identifier type: ChassisNumber
Vehicle type: MOTOR CYCLE Make: SUZUKI
Body type: MOTORCYCLE Model: GS100
Colour: YELLOW Engine number: GS10X102950
Registration plate number: No data recorded. State vehicle registered: QLD
Registration expiry: No data recorded.
Year of manufacture: 1983 Year/Month of compliance: 1983-03

What is also interesting is comparing the 2 engine numbers.
Yours was GS10X102950 and mine is GS10X102952.

Just before those big bad winds and rain turns up Nige but that is only after loosing the state of origin Cheers Murf.

GS10X102950 is the correct engine number. The photo you have posted has alloy wheels. Mine had wire spoked wheels, and I was always of the opinion that the SD's all had wires spokes?? When I sold mine it had a blue strip down the top of the tank. The motorcycle had fallen over and the top of the tank was dented. Instead of repainting the entire tank after the dent was repaired, it was much easier to paint the top of the tank blue to match the seat. I note that in the WA section of this Forum, referencing the Albany Vintage rally last year, there is a yellow Katana, although it does not show a number plate? Could this be the motorcycle??

As far as I know the SD 1000's weren't released with wire wheels.
When you purchased yours back in 84,did it have wire wheels fitted?

With it now being yellow....that should narrow the search.
Don't think we have any members with yellow 1000 kats ,do we?

Yes Dave you are correct, the GSX1000SD for all markets world wide were fitted with cast wheels ex-factory. However, the story goes some were retro fitted with W.W. by dealers to help sell them as they were not moving as well as planned. Some race teams also fitted W.W. although in most cases the scrutineers pinged them before they wheeled them onto the track.

Fantastic job you have done bringing your SD back to life and the stunning W.W. mod.

No yellow SD 1000 here that I know of- so far?

The only Katana models to be fitted with W.W. ex-factory were the GSX1100SXZ Kats for Australia, NZ and Sowd Effrika.

Cheers,
Glen.

The wire wheels were from new. Unfortunately I do not have any photos. The only changes I made were a set of Marzocchi shocks and a 4 into 1 exhaust, most likely Yoshimura? Typical changes for the day. The bike could most likely still be in SEQ, and being yellow would be quite noticeable.

Well if anyone sees a Yellow Katana; tell him to get in touch. Cheers
