Hi all my name is Shane and I am a proud owner of 1982 katana 1000sz fitted with a gs1000 engine. My question is does anyone out there no how to get to it to go faster as it maxes out at around 130 klm per hour, which is consistent with the Speedo of my bike. This bike handles like a dream but it makes it hard to take away on a ride with my mates as it is so underpowered. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Whereabouts are you?

That doesn't sound right at all.
 
Nope doesn't sound right at all! The GS engine won't be quite as good as the GSX, but given my GS450 easily gets beyond 130 something ain't right...
 
Hmm, definitely something not right, suggest you start with a compression test, healthy cylinders should have over 150psi each. Or possibly your igniter box is faulty and not generating good spark for your coils/ plugs. Supercheap have a spark tester you can attach your plug lead one end and plug the other and you can see the spark through a clear window, so easy. Good luck. Cheers. Bill
 
I gotta ask, why is your Kat fitted with a GS engine?

Regardless, a GS1000 engine is easily capable of moving a Kat chassis to speeds around 200 km/h - as stated above, check compression, then ignition and ignition timing, then intake/carburetor/exhaust.

Then fit a GSX1000 engine.
