Hi guys,
I own an 11/84 popup Katana, that has the taillight assembly with the integrated amber indicator lenses? Darkside mentioned that this is only fitted to Japanese models as the indicators have to be 30cms apart in Australia.
Looking at the Australian Motor Vehicle Certification Board plate saying it complies with ADRs, could it be possible that the bike I have is an Australian model that someone has put a Japanese taillight assembly on? The ADR codes that I can see are 7 for hydraulic lines and 28 is noise? The bike needs restoration, but would like to put it together as close to original as I can so any info would be really helpful?
Thanks Mick

Its quiet likely its an aussie delivered bike that has had the Japanese tail light section fitted, i have done it to 2 of mine and as its an original factory part it swaps straight in and fits to the wiring loom.

Hi minus45 and all,

Better be careful, I had been advised that the Australian Design Rules (ADR) specify that Australian plated motorbikes must be fitted (where indicators are required) a minimum of 30cm apart, that's why we don't have the Japanese indicators in Aust, they had to be replaced as compliance with the approved E24 build spec.

How that may affect you is you could get defected by the highway plod and have your bike stranded somewhere in the middle of no-where, the plod have the right to prevent the bike from being ridden back home where they can find an ADR variation (if you piss them off enough).

Where can I get the internal rear indicator light set up, cheers. I also saw a plug in indicator set up recently, like a stereo amp plug, as a legal option.

Do you mean the the sockets for the bulbs?
New Unlikely anywhere.

Maybe look though a car wreckers yard Im sure Ive seen the same fitting in car tail lights...

No, I mean the whole setup to match the jdm indicator setup. While I could rig up the electrics it would still require the amber glass.

Same applies unlikly to find it new anywheres (except maybe in Japan, even then unlikely)
Part number is
[h=3]35710-08a01[/h]listed not Availible most international part sites :-(
not trying to negative, just the fact..

Cheers John

I was going to get one for my project bike Kat 3. A guy I knew made this one. I don't know how well it was made but it sure looks good.

I recall a few years back, some guy had amber lenses which he had custom made which would replace and fit the blackout lenses, try Google and hope for the best.

I know it's not legal because I was tempted at 'two wheel wreckers' in osborne park.$40 they specifically said I need the indicators also. I have a photo of it if you want.
